Reason I choose it: I've had this book on my Kindle for 1.5 years since buying my kindle and I originally choose it just to have some books on my kindle to read.

 

Summary

When Livy O'Brien spies a young boy jostling a man walking along the boardwalk, she recognizes the act for what it is. After all, she used to be known as Light-fingered Livy. But that was before she put her past behind her and moved to the growing town of Chestnut, Illinois, where she's helping to run an orphanage. Now she'll do almost anything to protect the street kids like herself. Sheriff's deputy Jake Russell had no idea what he was in for when he ran into Livy--literally--while chasing down a pickpocket. With a rash of robberies and a growing number of street kids in town--as well as a loan on the family farm that needs to be paid off--Jake doesn't have time to pursue a girl. Still, he can't seem to get Livy out of his mind. He wants to get to know her better . . . but Livy isn't willing to trust any man, especially not a lawman.

My opinion

This is another Christian Fiction but the only thing that bothered me was the fact that every time they worried about something you'd hear those silent prayer... e.g we have no food in the cupboard please god provide us with something... next minute there is a knock at the door, 3 children turn up whose carriage has gone off the road and their father has died. The father had stocked up his carriage with food that will feed the town (almost). Yet no silent prayer went up to find the childrens relatives etc.... That seemed to get wary after a bit.

 

As for the book I think it was a nice read but there was so much potential to do so much more. It would have been nice to have a chapter for Livy and a chapter for the street children and those abducted as their stories would have been interesting to read. Instead you got stuck reading about the teenage crush style romance between Livy and Jake with crimes in between. Its the crimes and the street children that keep you reading as you want to find out who it is, what will happen and how it will end for all of them.
