Cecelia Ahern~P.S, I Love You~

Read: On Kindle
Paid: 99p
Reason I choose it: Someone at work was talking about the book ending being different to the movie ending. As I hadn't read or watched either I was curious about it so when this book came up as part of the Kindle Daily Deal at 99p it was the perfect chance to read it and find out more....

Summary
Holly and Gerry have known each other since they were at school and they were inseparable and eventually got married. They thought they would experience all the things couples do in life and grow old together only that wasn't meant to happen as Gerry was diagnosed with having a brain tumour and eventually died. Holly is finding it hard to get up in the morning, fill her cupboards with food etc... until one day her mum reminds her that there is a letter waiting for her at her house. Holly eventually goes and gets it and it turns out to be a 'list' that Gerry has written to motivate Holly into living life after he's gone. The catch for each envelope is that Holly has to open it on the first of each month so she eventually starts to wish the days away in order to open one of these envelopes.... Whilst all this is going on she learns who her friends are and builds a better bond with her siblings.

My Opinion
I think this is one of those books that you either love or hate but in my case I really liked it and didn't want to put it down. I wonder though if that was partly because I got attached to Holly a little and wanted to be there with her through this experience but also to see how things turned out. It is quite predictable but that's what I love about chick literature, its an easy comfortable read without having to do too much thinking. For some the ending would be annoying in the way things worked out with the 'man' we were all hoping she'd get together with but I'm glad she didn't as there was just something I didn't like about him and he ended up with the type of person he deserved.

  1. I love that book. I also love the movie, but because of wonderful soundtrack and scenery! I don't like really what they did with the movie, book was much better!

  2. Marina, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I was curious about the movie but maybe now I won't watch it as I usually always like the books more. The lady at work mentioned it was different so I wonder if it was maybe because she wasn't completely satisfied with the way they created it, I can now ask her.
